NEDA voices support for Labor's NDIS plan

NEDA would like to voice their support of the Labor Party’s commitment and vision toward the future of the NDIS, following the unveiling of their policy yesterday, the 19th of April.

NEDA welcomes the Labor Party’s six-point plan, with a pledge of $10M over 4 years, and a co-designed NDIS system, which NEDA and others in the disability sector have long called for.

Pledges to return the scheme to its core premise of choice and control, and to get rid of “cowboy” providers who financially deceive the system and take advantage of people with disability are also welcomed.

NEDA voices support for Inclusion Aus ADE comments

NEDA would like to voice their support of Inclusion Australia and the recent comments of their CEO Catherine McAlpine on the topic of Australian Disability Enterprises (ADEs).

NEDA reiterates the importance of inclusion in society under the social model of disability. True inclusion is not segregating people with disability to work in ADEs, sheltered workshops in which they are financially exploited for their labour.

NEDA responds to NDIS individual support cuts for kids under nine

NEDA is gravely concerned regarding alleged reforms to the NDIS, which would prevent access to individual support packages for children with disability under nine years of age, as reported in The Saturday Paper on the 26th of March 2022.

Restricting access to individual support during the early stages of development for children with autism and intellectual disabilities can be detrimental. Early childhood is an important stage in a child’s life, and for children with disability it is a key point in life in which they need the best professional services and support available.

NEDA Statement on Alleged NDIS Funding Cuts

NEDA would like to express its concern with the alleged NDIS funding cuts affecting people with autism as well as psychosocial and intellectual disabilities. We are very concerned for those people in the community who have had their supports diminished.

From all reports within the media and the sector, it appears that no consultation was made and that the changes to vulnerable people’s support packages occurred without warning or discussion.
